Landsmót 2022

National Icelandic Horse Festival in South Iceland

5 nights

Date: 5-10 July 2022

"Landsmót" means country meeting and is a national event held every 2 years in Iceland, where the best horses from all over the country meet in various competitions and shows. Famous stallions perform with their offspring and top marks are awarded in the breeding tests. As no importation of horses into Iceland is allowed, only horses born in Iceland take part in this event. For one week, the Landsmót grounds become a village with markets, gastronomy and a diverse supporting programme such as concerts and dance events.

The Landsmót is also a meeting place for Icelandic horse lovers from all over the world, old friends look forward to seeing each other again in Iceland and new acquaintances are made. The best horses in the vastness of the Icelandic landscape, the bright summer nights and an indescribable atmosphere that only exists at the Landsmót inspire every visitor. In 2022, the Landsmót will be held in Hella / South Iceland (about 100 km from Reykjavík) and, after the cancellation of the 2020 Landsmót, will certainly be a particularly unique experience!

IMPORTANT! All horse shows take place outdoors. Most spectators sit close to each other on meadow slopes at the show track (some grandstand seats available). Warm clothing (preferably in layers and with wool) is therefore very important!
